Introducing Andy Nelms
On behalf of Bishop McKee and the Staff-Parish Relations Committee, we are excited to share the news that Reverend Andy Nelms will be joining Prosper UMC as our Associate Pastor starting July 1st. Andy is coming to us from Oklahoma where he is currently serving as Associate Pastor at Acts 2 UMC. Below you will find a letter from Pastor Andy further introducing himself and his family.
Join us in praying for the Nelms family as they prepare to be in ministry with us here in Prosper! Watch for more information in mid-June about welcoming Pastor Andy, his wife Melissa and their family in person. The first week of July, we will be setting up a Listening Tour for them to meet as many of our church family members as possible. If you would like to host one of these sessions, please let us know!

Relations Committee Chair
Dear Prosper UMC,
I am excited about the opportunity to do ministry together with you in Prosper. My family and I are currently preparing for a move to the Dallas area as my wife, Melissa, continues pursuing her call to ministry by attending Perkins School of Theology at SMU in the Fall of 2019. I look forward to partnering in ministry with the staff and membership of Prosper UMC.
I have a passion for helping all people understand the great love of God through Jesus Christ. In my nearly 10 years of ministry experience, 9 of those years as a pastor, I have seen this passion come to reality. I’ve served in various capacities at churches of different sizes. Currently I am serving on staff at Acts 2 United Methodist Church, a rapidly growing church planted 20 years ago that now worships around 600 each weekend.
In my 5 years of experience on staff at Acts 2 UMC, I have served in multiple roles requiring supervision of staff and volunteers, development and implementation of curriculum, and fund raising. In the last two years I’ve had the privilege of launching a new worshipping community as a ministry of Acts 2 UMC called One Church. I have enjoyed serving on staff at a large growing church. I am looking forward to an opportunity to continue growing in experience and skill set serving on the staff team of Prosper UMC.
Outside of working in ministry, I enjoy spending time with my family. My family includes my wife, Melissa, daughter, Anna who is 6 years old, and Elijah who is 3 years old. I also enjoy reading fiction and non-fiction. I am currently reading the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling, The Bullet Journal Method by Ryder Carroll, and Canoeing the Mountains by Tod Bolsinger. My interests include listening to dynamic speakers, technology, and video games.
I consider it a great privilege to serve on staff with the Prosper UMC team. I am looking forward to working alongside all of you as we put God’s grace into action and shine as a beacon of love, help, healing, hope, and joy!
Rev. Andy Nelms
