A ROAR-ing Fun Time

School’s out and summer vacation is on!  This past week, more than 200 kids and 100 volunteers ROARed into Vacation Bible School to explore God’s goodness and celebrate a ferocious faith that empowers them through this wild life.

Kids started each day in the sanctuary with songs and an opening skit. Afterwards, African animal-named “crews” of 12 kids each rotated through a variety of fun activities. While one “crew” went on safari to outdoor recreation, another was on the hunt for snacks and crafts, while others would strike out on expeditions to explore science or Bible times. (Don’t we wish we were kids again?)

Different this year for incoming 5th graders was the opportunity to participate in a new program called Big Crew. They had separate games, snacks, and activities designed just for them as the oldest kids of VBS.

So, why all the fuss and effort for VBS? First, did you also know that about half the kids and some volunteers who attend are not actively involved with another church? “For some, it is the only time during the year they may come to church,” said Bree Bakke, Director of Children’s Ministry. “We hope to plant seeds and encourage everyone to find a church home somewhere. That’s also why we keep the cost minimal. We don’t want to turn anyone away.”

Besides experiencing God’s love, the VBS program includes planting seeds of mission and reaching out to those in need. This year’s goal was to raise $900 to help a health clinic in Tanzania where Allee Gomulka, our missionary, is currently serving. The clinic is in need of funds to expand its reach. The actual amount raised was $1826.41!!

Are time and money resources spent in organizing VBS worth it? Decide for yourself by seeing comments from last year’s post-VBS survey:
•  It’s an amazing way to share God’s grace.

•  The songs, the activities, we loved the whole thing!

•  When my kids knew summer was coming, they begged to go again because it was so much fun the previous year.  And again, you did not disappoint.

To our VBS Volunteers, Contributors, and Sponsors:  Please accept our heartfelt appreciation for your support and sowing into the ministry of Vacation Bible School. Because of you, we have the opportunity to touch the lives of kids and families with God’s love both within our church and community as well as abroad in Tanzania.
