Did you know that one of the products of the discernment process was to set a focus on Children’s Ministry? This focus has brought about some exciting changes, one of which is to use investment dollars from our Grow Fund to add a Children’s Ministry Assistant. This three-year investment, beyond the budget funded by the church’s generous givers, is a healthy risk as we continue to grow the church. The Children’s Ministry Assistant will be primarily in charge of the nursery and preschool aspects of Children’s Ministry. The new hire will be charged with managing the nursery and it’s employees, leading the Prosper United Methodist Preschool weekly chapel, being a liaison between PUMP and the church, and planning the curriculum for the nursery and preschool-aged Sunday School children. In addition to those responsibilities, the Children’s Ministry Assistant will develop programs with an intentional focus on the youngest in our congregation and community.
Last week, the Staff Parish Relations Team approved the hire of Sheri Hay as the new Children’s Ministry Assistant. Sheri brings a wealth of knowledge to this position. Not only is Sheri a preschool teacher and member of the church, but she is also a dedicated member of the Children’s Ministry Volunteer Team. “I’m thrilled that Sheri is joining Children’s Ministry as a staff member. She is kind-hearted, dedicated, and has a gift for working with children. Sheri really feels like her experience and love of Prosper United Methodist Church have prepared her for this new position. I know that she will be a blessing to the children and families she encounters in Children’s Ministry,” says Bree Bakke, Director of Children’s Ministry.
Sheri Hay grew up in Midland, Texas and is a graduate from Texas Tech University. She is certified in Elementary Education with a specialization in Early Childhood and has 20 years of teaching experience in Pre-K and Kindergarten. Sheri is married to Tim and has two children, Meredith a senior at Prosper High School and Erick a 4th grader at Boyer Elementary. She enjoys volunteering through the years as an adult Sunday School teacher, Children’s Sunday School teacher, on the Children’s Team and as a Girl Scout Troop leader. Her hobbies include reading, watching Texas Rangers Baseball and cheering for the Red Raiders.
