Advent Begins the Season of Faithful Waiting, Faithful Living

My First paragraph with bold text.

This season calls us to watch, to wait, and to walk faithfully. Each day draws us closer to the heart of God, teaching us that waiting is not idleness but devotion, and living faithfully is love in motion. As we journey through hope, love, joy, and peace, may our waiting deepen our trust, and our living become a witness to Christ’s light breaking into the world once more. Introduction The Season of Faithful Waiting, Faithful Living As we enter this sacred season of Advent, we do so as a community of faith, members, staff, and friends of Prosper United Methodist Church — united by our longing for Christ’s coming and our commitment to live as bearers of His light. This devotional book is a labor of love from the hearts of many. Each reflection has been prayerfully written by members and staff of Prosper UMC, offering glimpses of hope, love, joy, and peace drawn from everyday life and sacred scripture. A special word of gratitude is extended to Sharon Boswell, whose thoughtful formatting, design, and cover artistry have brought these pages together in beauty and harmony. And to JeanAnn McConnell and Chris Hardwick for their careful review and proofing of this devotional. Their gifts of time, faith, and attention helped this book shine with clarity and grace. The word Advent comes from the Latin adventus, meaning “coming” or “arrival.” In the rhythm of the Christian year, Advent marks the beginning of the liturgical calendar, a time of expectant preparation for both the birth of Christ in Bethlehem and the promised return of Christ in glory. In the Wesleyan United Methodist tradition, Advent invites us to live in the tension between already and not yet, to celebrate the nearness of God through Jesus Christ while continuing to yearn for the full redemption of creation. Each candle we light remind us that hope, love, joy, and peace are not distant ideals, but gifts made real in faithful living. Each week centers around one of the four great themes of Advent: • Week One: Hope — More than a Season • Week Two: Love — Love Builds the Road • Week Three: Joy — Joy as Breath • Week Four: Peace — The Audacity of Peace Each day includes a scripture reading, a devotional reflection, questions for prayerful thought, and a closing prayer to help you engage this holy season more fully. You are invited to read slowly, listen deeply, and allow the Spirit to speak through the honest words of those who have written from the heart. Before you begin, you may wish to light a candle, a simple, tangible reminder of the Light that guides us all. Let its steady glow illuminate your path and center your soul as you draw closer to the Christ Child, the true Light of the world. We wait beneath the quiet sky, hands open, hearts aflame. The path is dim, yet holy still, for Love already knows our name. We walk by candle’s gentle glow, each step a prayer, each pause a sign that faithful living, day by day, makes sacred this slow, unfolding time. The Light draws near, soft, yet sure guiding us through night’s embrace. And when the Christ child dawns within, we find our waiting bathed in grace.
